Seven Virtues-Goodness

Peter in his letter to the early church writes that the divine power of God has given us everything we need for life and godliness advising that we have everything we need! He then goes on and advises that we should make every effort to add to our faith and lists seven virtues we should make every effort to increase in our faith. This week we will look at these virtues.

The first is: Goodness

Peter chose the word arete for goodness a word that describes what we are, not what we do. This goodness precedes and also produces action.

Peter calls us to acquire goodness for nothing; good without needing reward, or prompting, or recognition. It is the goodness that you are.

Can we be good just for goodness sake? How would we live or act if all our actions came from our goodness?

Have a good day!

John
