Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday the first day of Lent.

Lent is a period of intensified spiritual practice. The purpose of Lent is to take the time to focus on strengthening our connection and awareness of the presence of God.

What can you do for the next 40 days of Lent to strengthen your spiritual practice?
(If you would like a copy of our Lenten Journal let me know.)

A traditional practice is eating less. As a child you may have given up candy etc. Another approach is giving up complaining or another negative thought process. Tomorrow I will discuss the tradition of fasting and Emmet Fox’s comment on the power of fasting from food and how this practice can be used to serve others.

I have created a blog called Journey through Lent which will contain reflections on our journey this Lenten season. the Url is www.insidelent.blogspot.com

I hope you will join us.

Happy Valentines Day

Every month we focus on a spiritual idea or principle and this month our focus in on the principle or power of love. In our meditation time we contemplate what love is and use the idea of a disciple and color to assist us in our meditation.

John has been called the beloved disciple and the name John also represents the journey from the head to the heart. John the Baptist to John the Apostle. The color for the month is pink.

Love enables us to practice the presence of God within, therefore “casting out” fears, which contribute to poverty, lack, ill health and adverse conditions. Love brings God closer and closer in our everyday life. We see life as it is truly meant to be lived.

“Love those about you in a practical way; pay no attention to what others are doing, in so far as to make comparisons. Bring forth your own joyous world. There is within you the God given intelligence to build such a world.” Myrtle Fillmore,

“Love is one of the ideas that provide a key to the infinite storehouse of abundance.”Charles Fillmore

“It is the in the law of love that we have whatsoever we desire. As a father gives his children gifts, so the Lord gives to us, because of love.” Charles Fillmore.

May Love flow through you today & always.
Happy Valentines Day;
John
